On Sunday 16th February 2020, The Barbados National Trust, in collaboration with the Hiking Association of Barbados, will be hosting the ‘Colin Hudson Memorial Great Train Hike’. The Great Train Hike, retraces the route that the Barbados Railway took from Bridgetown to Belleplaine.
The Great Train Hike starts at 6:00 am from Independence Square, Bridgetown and ends at Belleplaine, St. Andrew. See the attached flyer for further information.
Hike Barbados takes you through cane fields, gullies, tropical forests, and coastal communities to explore the unique geological and social structure of Barbados.
Along the way you will meet new friends, enjoy healthy exercise and observe the delicate balance of the unique heritage and environment of Barbados.
This is a 25+ mile hike. It will take MANY hours (long past mid-day). Not for the faint-hearted!
Many hikers do only one or several of the station.
The Hike will pass the following stations:
Bulkeley, St. George
Carrington, St. Philip
Three Houses, St. Philip
Consett Cutting, St. John
Bath, St. John
Bathsheba, St. Joseph
Barclays Park, St. Joseph
Belleplaine, St. Andrew
Persons can join or leave at any station, however, all are welcome to join up at Belleplaine.
There will be water stops along the way.
Since the route is NOT a loop, you must make arrangements to be picked up at the point where you choose to stop. Public transport is also readily available back to Bridgetown or Speightstown.
To get to the starting point of the hike:
Car park on south side of the Careenage.

Advice for first-time walkers
The sun is hot! You will get tired more quickly than you think.
The best thing to do is to go on the Stop ‘n Stare on your first hike.
If you’re comfortable with that, work your way up.
