Event Description

The theme for this year’s Nation Funathlon – fuelled by Sol Barbados – is Go Further For A Healthier Barbados.

Thousands of enthusiasts take part every year.

The event will begin and end in Queen’s Park.

The aim of this charity walk and run is to drive awareness of the negative impact violence has on our community and encourage persons to strive to build a better Barbados and support causes with positive preventative and intervention programmes.

Route: Starting in Queen’s Park, facing the direction of the Governor General’s gate (main entrance), exit through the gate turning left on to Constitution Road toward the Mencea Cox Roundabout. Continue straight at the roundabout on to Belmont Road towards the Dame Nita Barrow roundabout. Turn left at the roundabout on to Welches Road and continue straight through the traffic lights towards the Welches Post Office and in the direction of the George Lamming Primary School. On approaching the School keep left on to Bridge Road and continue along Bridge Road, through the traffic lights on to Bank Hall Cross Road. At the traffic light at the end of Bank Hall Cross Road, turn left on to Lower Bank Hall Road in the direction of the Bank Hall Sol Service Station and the Barbados O’Level Institute. Continue along Lower Bank Hall Road, through the traffic lights and on to Whitepark Road. Continue along Whitepark Road for approximately 0.75 KM in the direction of the Barbados Supreme Court Complex. While on Whitepark Road, continue briefly on to Coleridge Street and making a left turn through Magazine Lane. At the end of Magazine Lane, turn left on to Roebuck Street and continue to the traffic lights. At the traffic lights, turn right on to Crumpton Street, continuing pass Harrison’s College then making a left turn on to Constitution Road towards the Governor General’s gate of Queen’s Park. Turn left and enter through the Governor General’s gate and continue towards the finish line.

Pre-race activities begin at 3:00 pm

Race starts at 4:00 pm

Tickets: Adults Bds $25.00 | Children 16 y.o. and under Bds $15.00

Hike Barbados takes you through cane fields, gullies, tropical forests, and coastal communities to explore the unique geological and social structure of Barbados.

Along the way, you will meet new friends, enjoy healthy exercise and observe the delicate balance of the unique heritage and environment of Barbados.

To get to the starting point of the hike:
After Hothersal Turning, go through Bibby’s Lane (Highway E).
After Exchange, bear right (dangerous junction) just before Proutes and look for old factory chimney. Park in the plantation yard.

Hike time: 6:00 PM ONLY!

Barbados National Trust Hikes

The hikes are FREE but donations are welcome towards the work of the Barbados National Trust (preserving our built and natural environment).

Times
All morning hikes start at 6:00 a.m.
Afternoon hikes (Stop ‘n’ Stare only) start at 3:30 p.m.
The Moonlight Walks start at 5:30 p.m., you are advised to bring a torch to these walks.

There is a morning hike and, in addition, either an afternoon hike or a moonlight walk on every hike date EXCEPT the date of the Great Train Hike.

Place
All hikes start and finish at the meeting place.
There is a printed booklet with a calendar of the year’s hikes available from the National Trust at Wildey House, Wildey, St. Michael

Dress
Loose clothing, comfortable hiking boots/sports shoes, sunscreen, hat. Bring your camera and a bottle of water. Refreshments are on sale after the Hikes.

Walk Descriptions
In the morning, there are four hikes at different paces.
All hikes last approximately 3 hours., but…..
The Stop ‘n’ Stare group walks for 5-6 miles,
The Medium group 8-10 miles,
The Fast Medium group 10 to 12 miles, and
The Fast group 12-14 miles.

Advice for first-time walkers
The sun is hot!  You will get tired more quickly than you think.
The best thing to do is to go on the Stop ‘n Stare on your first hike.
If you’re comfortable with that, work your way up.
