Event Description

The Solar Express Tours are innovative and educational tours of the historic City of Bridgetown utilizing Solar-powered Shuttles.

Featured Sites include:
St. Mary’s Church
The Chamberlain Bridge
Parliament Buildings
National Heroes Square

Tours are available Mondays to Fridays, based on bookings.

The Solar Express City Sites and Historic Tours feature a unique experience for the visitor and local alike, as each tour showcases the beautiful architecture and rich antiquity of Barbados’ capital which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With 27 renowned sites highlighted on the tour, from colonial architecture, churches to historic buildings, there is something for everyone.

The Solar Express Tour is an initiative of the Small Business Association of Barbados funded in part by the GEF Small Grants programme of the UNDP, and is aimed at increasing awareness of sustainable transport in Bridgetown.

Each year, with the kind permissions of the owners, the Barbados Horticultural Society organizes tours which allow members of the public to visit some of the best kept gardens in Barbados. 

Today, patrons will view the gardens of:

Barbados Horticultural Society Open Gardens

The Barbados Horticultural Society (BHS) is a very vibrant and professional group of women and men dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in plant cultivation and flower arrangement.

 

Every year they make a trek to the huge international Chelsea Flower Show in the UK and every year they return with one or more medals, gold more often than not.

This a street party with thousands of revelers jamming behind music trucks in the early hours of the morning.

Also known as ‘Mud Mas‘ revelers daub themselves with paint and mud and do their best to similarly daub their friends.

It’s a lot cooler at that time of morning!

Plenty of food and drink available.

Organised by the National Cultural Foundation (NCF), the event is expected to attract many bands of registered revelers. There’ll be many ‘unregistered’ as well!

Security is provided.

There are three starting points:

  • Queen’s Park, Bridgetown
  • Helipad in Bridgetown
  • The Barbados Investment & Development Corporation (BIDC), Pelican House, Princess Alice Highway, Bridgetown

It ends as usual at the Mighty Grynner Highway (formerly the Spring Garden).
