Coco Hill Forest is located on Richmond Road, St. Joseph. This 53-acre rainforest overlooking the East Coast of Barbados consists of Bamboo groves, hundreds of Royal Palms and tree ferns. Coco Hill Forest is being used as part of an Agroforest project. The aim of the project is to help create food security through permaculture and organic farming. Growing in the rainforest are coconuts, bananas, coffee, cocoa and pineapples and numerous tropical fruit trees, herbs and spices.

Open daily from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Hike Barbados takes you through cane fields, gullies, tropical forests and coastal communities to explore the unique geological and social structure of Barbados.

Along the way, you will meet new friends, enjoy healthy exercise and observe the delicate balance of the unique heritage and environment of Barbados.

To get to the starting point: Turn left at the bottom of Coach Hill, first right at the old sugar factory.

Hike Times: 6:00 am and 3:30 pm

Barbados National Trust Hikes

The hikes are always FREE but donations are welcome towards the work of the Barbados National Trust (preserving our built and natural environment).

Place
All hikes start and finish at the meeting place.
There is a printed booklet with a calendar of the year’s hikes available from the National Trust at Wildey House, Wildey, St. Michael

Dress
Loose clothing, comfortable hiking boots/sports shoes, sunscreen, hat. Bring your camera and a bottle of water. Refreshments are on sale after the Hikes.

Advice for first-time walkers
The sun is hot!  You will get tired more quickly than you think.
The best thing to do is to go on the Stop ‘n Stare on your first hike.
If you’re comfortable with that, work your way up.

Golden Grove is a plantation house on 3 acres of vibrant land. The History of Golden Grove can be traced back to 1816, when the slave revolt ended as rebels fled from Bayleys to Golden Grove.

The Barbados National Trust is a charitable, non-profit organization founded in 1961.Their mission is to preserve and protect the physical aspects of Barbados’ culture. Among the architectural and archaeological sites maintained are many places of interest which remain favorites of Barbadian locals and visitors alike. These sites prove in some way to be ecologically essential, culturally significant, or are simply the “fields and hills” mentioned in Barbados’ national anthem which beautify the natural environment.
