Hike Barbados takes you through cane fields, gullies, tropical forests and coastal communities to explore the unique geological and social structure of Barbados.

Along the way you will meet new friends, enjoy healthy exercise and observe the delicate balance of the unique heritage and environment of Barbados.

To get to the starting point of the hike:
From Norman Niles Roundabout, travel east on H’way 5 toward Bulkeley Old Sugar Factory. On passing Bulkeley and immediately past the next four roads, fork right to Brighton Plantation.

Hike Times: 6:00 am and 3:30 pm

Barbados National Trust Hikes

The hikes are FREE but donations are welcome towards the work of the Barbados National Trust (preserving our built and natural environment).

Times
All morning hikes start at 6:00 a.m.
Afternoon hikes (Stop ‘n’ Stare only) start at 3:30 p.m.
The Moonlight Walks start at 5:30 p.m., you are advised to bring a torch to these walks.

There is a morning hike and, in addition, either an afternoon hike or a moonlight walk on every hike date EXCEPT the date of the Great Train Hike.

Place
All hikes start and finish at the meeting place.
There is a printed booklet with a calendar of the year’s hikes available from the National Trust at Wildey House, Wildey, St. Michael

Dress
Loose clothing, comfortable hiking boots/sports shoes, sunscreen, hat. Bring your camera and a bottle of water. Refreshments are on sale after the Hikes.

Walk Descriptions
In the morning, there are four hikes at different paces.
All hikes last approximately 3 hours., but…..
The Stop ‘n’ Stare group walks for 5-6 miles,
The Medium group 8-10 miles,
The Fast Medium group 10 to 12 miles, and
The Fast group 12-14 miles.

Advice for first-time walkers
The sun is hot!  You will get tired more quickly than you think.
The best thing to do is to go on the Stop ‘n Stare on your first hike.
If you’re comfortable with that, work your way up.

Gine On?! Freedom Festival 2020 presents its Crop Over Ben Ovah Dance Competition.

Utilising the Barbadian culture, folklore, and/or movement style, create a dance to a 2020 produced music rhythm.

The rhythm will be released July 13th to get those creative choreography juices flowing.

The winners and be used in the official music video of an artist who has released on the rhythm in 2020.

Submissions officially open July 19th. Top ranking video announced on August 3rd.

The National Cultural Foundation presents 2020 Junior Kadooment & Fair on Saturday July 25th 2020.

The Junior Kadooment is a smaller version of the Grand Kadooment – without the street parade.
Bands of costumed juniors vie for titles and prizes.

The Children of Crop Over get their opportunity to parade in mass colour and splendor at Kensington Oval. The day will be filled with dreams and vision as we continue to safeguard the traditions of masquerade in the sweetest summer festival. The event features the parade of the Kings & Queens of the Junior Bands, The Parade of the Junior Bands, the Party Zone, Cool Down Zone & After Party.

Bands of costumed juniors vie for titles and prizes. Judging is based on portrayal, craftsmanship, presentation, originality and visual impact. Kensington Oval will provide a state of the art venue for the young masqueraders to parade and party. The event will also provide a family friendly environment for visitors to the island who wish to participate in the festival.

This is a huge four-day street fair with vendors of all kinds selling their wares. From July 31st to August 3rd 2020. The latest calypso music will fill the air while patrons dance and fill their stomachs on a range of food, art and craft, jewelry and fine art for sale, along with wonderful entertainment.

On Kadooment Day, Aug 03, it’s where the bands end their jump.
It will be exciting, noisy and colourful as all the costumed players fill the streets.

About 150 stalls will be set up across various spots on the Mighty Grynner Highway including the Courts pasture, and by the Flour Mill.

A Cultural Extravaganza for the whole family.

This is the grand finale of the Crop Over Festival and possibly the main attraction of the annual festival for both locals and visitors. On Monday August 3rd, approximately 15000 revelers parade through the streets of St. Michael, this parade of colour and splendor starts at the National Stadium and pulsates to the Soca/calypso hits through the streets to the Mighty Grynner Highway.

Grand Kadooment Day celebrates the end of Crop Over, where Masquerade Bands make their way to the Mighty Grynner Highway with revelers dressed in sequin costumes decorated with colorful feathers, jewels and bright accents; dancing behind music trucks and moving bars.
