The Barbados Museum and Historical Society hosts a meeting of The History Group.
The History Group meets periodically and is intended to provide a platform for researchers of Barbadian History, Heritage and Culture to present their findings and other research to the members and invited guests of the Society.
Topic: Museum Design: Creating Cultural Capital.
Featured Speaker: George Jacob - President & CEO of Bay.Org in San Francisco
This talk will explore nuances of the future of museum design and culture in our increasingly virtual and changing inter-connected world of accelerated communication and global mobility. Museums are the souls of civil societies and they serve as repositories of our collective memory. They are an important catalyst for education, tourism, cultural infrastructure, and the quality of life in communities. Museums are more than iconic shells serving as memory keepers and often act as engines that drive cultural diplomacy — an art, whose soft power has tested true through the course of history in bridging relationships, forging allies, and facilitating exchange of ideas.
