The Barbados Museum & Historical Society and the 1688 Orchestra & Collective in association with the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation present Handel's Caribbean Messiah.
The event is being held under the patronage of the Governor General of Barbados, Her Excellency Dame Sandra Mason, GCMG, DA, QC.
Handel's Caribbean Messiah is a musical staging of selections from The Messiah written by George Frederic Handel. Unlike previous versions, Handel's Caribbean Messiah places The Messiah completely within the Caribbean tradition by reinterpreting Handel's compositions using the rhythms, melodic techniques, and structures of Caribbean folk and popular styles such as tuk, reggae, calypso, salsa and merengue. This new setting puts this 300-year-old work in the world of the contemporary Caribbean.
