The Carmichael Prize is open to any artist resident in Barbados, painting in any medium, in any style, on any subject inspired by Barbados. Photography is excluded.
The Carmichael Prize is named after Sir Trevor Carmichael (a prominent Barbadian) and is a non-acquisitive award designed to promote the creation, promotion and sale of fine art paintings in Barbados. Sponsored by Gold Corp.

The Carmichael Prize has three awards:
1. The Critic’s Prize for Best Painting by an Established Artist $1000
2. The Critic’s Prize for Best Painting by an Emerging Artist (Artist who has not had a solo exhibition) $1000
3. The Public Prize ($1000), which is chosen by visitors to the gallery over a two week period.
