Fustic House is one of the most distinctive and magical of the transformations created on Barbados by the English theatrical designer, Oliver Messel. Besides the two-part house, there’s a delightful cottage, and the new conference/entertainment pavilion. The overall ambience and the little details all merge to create an atmosphere of unparalleled elegance and tranquility. With 11 acres of park-like grounds, you’ll want to walk a lot.
Go north on Highway 2A to St. Lucy’s Parish Church. Take the 90-degree left at the roundabout, so that the church car park is on your immediate right. Stay on that road for about 2 km. As you enter Checker Hall, look for the Fustic Village sign on your left..
Admission: Bds $10.00 for BHS members; all others $15.00
The Barbados Horticultural Society (BHS) is a very vibrant and professional group of women and men dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in plant cultivation and flower arrangement.
Every year they make a trek to the huge international Chelsea Flower Show in the UK and every year they come back with one or more medals, gold more often than not.
On the last Saturday and Sunday in January, they host their annual Flower and Garden Show at their headquarters at Balls Plantation in Christ Church.
The BHS’s Open Garden Programme takes place in the weeks preceding and following that show.
Some gardens will have vendors selling plants and craft items but NOT all as this depends on whether the garden owner has given their permission for this or not.
This is a programme that is eagerly awaited by locals and visitors alike.
