Holders Season 2013

The Annual Holders Season needs no introduction.
It's simply a feast of excellent entertainment.

Here is the schedule for Holders Season 2013:

Saturday 9th March – Opening Night
Peter Grant, Rebecca Poole and Ronnie Scott All Stars
A Tribute to Hollywood
The Holders Season kicks off with an effervescent tribute to the music of Hollywood in the 50’s and 60’s. It’s the time of Frank Sinatra, his 'rat pack' buddies and the music that defined a generation. The evening is headlined by Peter Grant who has been compared to Sinatra since he was 13 and has topped the charts with a gold selling album - and he is joined by dazzling young singer Rebecca Poole. And it gets better. The two of them are joined by Holders favourites, London's Ronnie Scott's Allstars, led by its maestro, pianist James Pearson

Tues 12th March
Gospel Charity Night for the Heart & Stroke Foundation

A Mahalia Jackson Evening
A rip-roaring tribute to the original 'Queen of Gospel'.  Mahalia Jackson – who died in 1972 – was described by Harry Belafonte as "the single most powerful black woman in the United States." Visiting gospel music for the first time in its 20 year history, Holders' tribute to Jackson and some of the other all time greats from gospel around the world is lead by the Rev Basil Meade, one of the most charismatic of gospel choir leaders and the founder 30 years ago of the UK's top gospel choir, the London Community Gospel Choir. The place will shake!

Thurs 14th March
The Basil Fawlty Dining Experience
The food will be great, but pretty much everything else stands to be hysterical and chaotic! Join us for a recreation of one of the funniest sit coms ever to hit the world's television screens, Fawlty Towers. There are only 120 tickets for The Basil Fawlty Dining Experience – which will take place on the Holders House Gallery – so don't miss out on an absolute hoot.

Saturday 16th March
Theatre Night
Casablanca - The Gin Joint Cut

Written and directed by Morag Fullarton

The Event
Performed by David Calvitto
Written and Directed by John Clkancy

Mon 18th March

Africa Entsha with support from Muntu Valdo
Back by popular demand, Cameroonian genius Muntu Valdo was with us in 2011 returns with everything that is best in the music of West Africa, his deft use of technology will have you believing he has an entire choir and band on stage with him. Stunning.

And then the wonderful Africa Entsha. A joyous quartet of singers from Soweto in South Africa whose a capella singing has carried them around the world on a tidal wave of energy and stage charisma.

Wed 20th March
Comedy Nigh
Paul Merton and his Impro Chums

The biggest name in improvisational comedy in the UK, Paul Merton, leads four remarkable comedians from London’s number one venue, The Comedy Store, in a night of brilliant improvisation. It will have you in stitches, all depending on the ideas you give them, so come prepared to join in the laughs and fun

Sat 23rd March
Gala Night
Russell Watson and String Fever
Another major hit from the 2011 Holders season, String Fever return. The funniest and most versatile string group you will ever hear, the Broadbent family of musicians use their electronic instruments to create anything from Vivaldi to Jimi Hendrix and pretty much everything in between. Pure class.

And to crown the 20th Holders Season we welcome the huge success story known simply as 'The Voice'. 'The people's tenor Russell Watson has truly broken the mould with his versatility singing both classical and contemporary repertoire, selling hundreds of thousands of albums along the way.

Founded in 1993, the Holders Season is established as the premier cultural event in the Caribbean. Acclaimed nationally and internationally, the season is a celebration of opera, music and theatre. The production always plays to capacity houses and its high artistic standard draws audiences from around the world.

Holders House, St. James, again plays host to this musical and theatrical festival. This stately house has been in existence for over 300 years and is an interesting mixture of English and Barbadian vernacular. The grounds are extensive and lovely with mature tropical trees and shrubs, the perfect setting for the open-air theatre that comes alive every year during the Holders Season.
